What is AmeriCorps?

AmeriCorps is America's domestic Peace Corps. By helping others, AmeriCorps Members help themselves and strengthen communities. They do not receive a salary, but like Peace Corps members, they receive a minimal living stipend and help with educational expenses.

Citizen service - that is what America and AmeriCorps is all about. Through AmeriCorps, Kentucky and America are going to find the ways and means to make citizen service the common expectation and experience of every American.

 AmeriCorps Four Goals

  1. Getting Things Done - AmeriCorps helps communities meet their education, public safety, human, or environmental needs through service.

  2. Strengthening Communities - AmeriCorps unites individuals from all different backgrounds in the common effort to improve communities.

  3. Encouraging Responsibility - AmeriCorps encourages Members to explore and exercise their responsibilities to their communities, their families, and themselves-during their service and their lives.

  4. Expanding Opportunity - AmeriCorps helps those who help America. They receive awards to further their education or pay back their student loans, as well as invaluable job experience, specialized training, and life skills.
