Master of Arts in Educational Leadership

Courses and Course Descriptions:

  • EAD 801 Introduction to School Leadership and Administration: This is the study of modern administrative theories, practices, and techniques in school leadership and responsibilities, with emphasis on facilitating leadership to create a work climate supportive of excellence in teaching and learning.
  • EAD 810 Educational Leadership Practicum:
  • EAD 827 Finance and Support Services in Schools: This course is designed to introduce and explore concepts in school finance and school business management. Specifically, the course content will cover school finance and school business practices as it pertains to the national, state, and local practices.
  • EAD 828 School Law and Ethics in School Leadership: This course is designed to introduce legal principles and interpretations of constitutional and statutory laws. Judicial decisions and school policies based on those are emphasized. Special attention is given to the school-based decision-making process at the school level.
  • EAD 834 Leadership for Human Resources Development: This course will research the human resources available to schools and leadership. School leaders today must demonstrate “facilitative leadership” in to order to be effective. The job of school leader is an increasingly complex one. Leaders cannot possibly have all of the answers, but it is critical that they are knowledgeable of the human resources available to them to be informed, to inform others and build leadership capacity within.
  • EMS 850 Curriculum for Leaders in Education: A course focusing on assisting teachers to define, plan, implement, and assess the P-12 Curricula. This course is designed for students pursuing programs in education leadership.
  • EAD 869 Action Research and Decision Making in Education: The major emphasis of this course will be the acquisition and application of action research and decision-making skills and techniques in school leadership and management. Students will gain skill in action research through the study of basic concepts and application of those to selected real and hypothetical situations. A proposal for action research will be prepared and completed during the course.
  • EAD 824 Technology and Leadership Practices for Program Improvement: This is web-enhanced course designed to introduce the student to research relative to the integration of technology into K-12 school systems and to help students understand and apply research-based, best practices, in K-12 technology integration initiatives. The study of assessment, improvement, and application of computer technology and effective leadership practices in education will be addressed. The major goal of this course is for each student to leave with an increased ability to effectively and efficiently implement and use technology in the school and classroom. Basic legal and ethical issues related to educational technology will also be introduced and discussed. Students will initiate their program eportfolio in this course.
  • EAD 831 Leadership for School Program Collaboration: The study of the issues and opportunities that surround educational leaders, professional staff, support staff, students, and communities as they relate to collaborative efforts regarding quality and equity in developing world class schools.
  • EAD 846 Leadership for School Community Relations: Study of issues and responsibilities relating to the establishment and administration of a school community relations program at the school district and school building levels.
