KHEAA
Teacher Scholarship Program- Up to $5000/year available to
any KY resident (& U.S. citizen) pursuing a teaching
certificate (except in religious education) and planning to teach
in Kentucky schools. This scholarship only remains a
scholarship if the awardee graduates with a teaching certificate
and teaches in KY for as long as he/she received the scholarship,
otherwise it becomes a loan at 12% interest. This is a
need-based scholarship and top priority goes to students already
admitted to Teacher Education. |

Minority
Educator Recruitment & Retention Scholarship (MERR)-
Up to $5000/year available to any minority student (KY resident
& U.S. citizen) pursuing a teaching certificate and planning
to teach in Kentucky schools with a 2.5+ GPA and 21 ACT composite
score. This scholarship only remains a scholarship if the
awardee graduates with a teaching certificate and teaches in KY
for as long as he/she received the scholarship, otherwise it
becomes a loan at 12% interest. This is not a
need-based scholarship, but the award does depend on other aid
granted to the student. |

Clark Memorial Endowed Scholarship Fund in Education- Given to
a Full-time (FT) Freshman College of Education (COE) student,
preferably from Montgomery, Bath, Fleming, or Clark Counties, with
a 3.0 + GPA in High School. |

Greer Miller Endowed Scholarship for Non-Traditional Students- Given
to a FT student (age 25+) majoring in Education. |

Jennings Award- Given to a Sophomore female in the COE with
the highest GPA who's planning to teach. |

with the highest GPA and planning to teach. |

in education with a focus on one of the sciences. |

a student with a 3.6+ undergraduate GPA, graduating with a
teaching certificate & admitted to the Graduate School in

Loans offering Loan Forgiveness for Teachers
 |
Stafford
Loan Forgiveness- Up to $5000 of student loan money can be
forgiven after 5 consecutive years of full-time teaching service
in a U.S. low-income school. Available to students borrowing
a Stafford loan through FFEL or Federal Direct Loan programs after
October, 1998. |

BestStart/Best
in Class Loans- If you become a teacher, counselor or
librarian in any KY public, nonprofit school
and have taken out a BestStart loan, you could be eligible for
loan forgiveness (interest only) at the end of each fiscal
year. If you become a Math, Science, English as a Second
Language (ESL), or Special Education teacher in any KY
school, you could be eligible for additional loan forgiveness
benefits (20% of
original principal) at the end of each fiscal year. |
