Any Teaching Major KHEAA Teacher Scholarship Program- Up to $5000/year available to any KY resident (& U.S. citizen) pursuing a teaching certificate (except in religious education) and planning to teach in Kentucky schools.  This scholarship only remains a scholarship if the awardee graduates with a teaching certificate and teaches in KY for as long as he/she received the scholarship, otherwise it becomes a loan at 12% interest.  This is a need-based scholarship and top priority goes to students already admitted to Teacher Education. Minority Educator Recruitment & Retention Scholarship (MERR)-  Up to $5000/year available to any minority student (KY resident & U.S. citizen) pursuing a teaching certificate and planning to teach in Kentucky schools with a 2.5+ GPA and 21 ACT composite score.  This scholarship only remains a scholarship if the awardee graduates with a teaching certificate and teaches in KY for as long as he/she received the scholarship, otherwise it becomes a loan at 12% interest. This is not a need-based scholarship, but the award does depend on other aid granted to the student.   Marguerite Clark Memorial Endowed Scholarship Fund in Education- Given to a Full-time (FT) Freshman College of Education (COE) student, preferably from Montgomery, Bath, Fleming, or Clark Counties, with a 3.0 + GPA in High School. Nancy Greer Miller Endowed Scholarship for Non-Traditional Students- Given to a FT student (age 25+) majoring in Education. Mabel Jennings Award- Given to a Sophomore female in the COE with the highest GPA who's planning to teach. Florence B. Stratemeyer Award- Given to a Sophomore male in the COE with the highest GPA and planning to teach. Quentin and Mary Ann Keen Scholarship- Given to a FT student majoring in education with a focus on one of the sciences. J. Dorland and Thomas Jackson Coates Fund- Given to a KY resident enrolled in a pre-teaching major (includes secondary education majors). Harry S Truman Scholarship- Given to a Junior or Senior (anticipating only 3 years enrollment) pursuing a graduate degree in public service, including an MaED. (one recipient /university). Dean Homer E. Cooper Memorial Graduate Scholarship Award- Given to a student with a 3.6+ undergraduate GPA, graduating with a teaching certificate & admitted to the Graduate School in Education. Albert B. Allison Memorial Endowed Scholarship- Given to a Freshman from Harrodsburg High School seeking a major in teaching. L. Leach Memorial Endowed Scholarship- Given to a student planning to coach high school sports. Ruth Paige White Memorial Scholarship- Given to an African American KY resident with 2nd semester Sophomore status, with a 2.5+ GPA, accepted to teacher education, and majoring in Education. Juanita Losey Scholarship- Given to a FT Junior or Sernior with a 2.8+ GPA majoring in Education and graduated from a KY public high school. Early Childhood and Elementary Education Majors Only Clarence Gifford Endowed Scholarship Award in Education- 4 yr. tuition is given to a full time, instate resident majoring in Elementary Education. Stella Thompson Lutes Memorial Endowed Scholarship Fund- Given to Sophomore or older KY resident with a 3.0+ GPA majoring in Elementary Education. Carrie B. Jones Pigman Memorial Endowed Scholarship- Given to a FT, female Sophomore or Junior in Elementary Education, pref. from Floyd/Knott Counties. Early Childhood Development Scholarships- Given to KY-resident, IECE majors enrolled in a max.of 9 hrs/semester and employed 20 hr/week in an early childhood setting or as a teaching asst. in a state-funded pre-school. Lamb Scholarship Fund- Given to undergraduate students* from Madison County or Clarkesville or Semour High Schools (IN) with 24+ hours majoring in Social Studies, English, or Music Education. *Also given to a high school senior in the upper half of their graduating class, from Madison Southern or Madison Central, and from a single parent family, pursuing a major in Social Studies, English, or Music Education Ralph W. Rome Rankin Athletic Award Fund- Given to a Junior or Senior with a 2.25+ GPA (on preceding two semesters at EKU) who is majoring in Physical Education. EKU Theatre Endowed Scholarship- Given to a FT student with a 2.0+ GPA majoring in Speech and Theatre Teaching and must be active in at least one production/semester he/she receives the scholarship. Department of Music General Scholarship- Given to students preparing for careers in music education. Must audition with a Dept. of Music faculty member and participate in performing ensembles. Fred Darling Scholarship Fund- Given to a Senior with a 2.25+ GPA and majoring in Health or Physical Education. Special Education Majors ONLY Crusade for Children Scholarship- Given to Full-time or Part-time graduate students in the Department of Special Education. Interpreter Training Program Scholarships- $500 from the state given to students majoring in the Interpreter Training Program. Wietse de Hoop Scholarship- Given to an undergraduate student in Special Education who demonstrates scholarship, service to the profession/community and leadership potential. Susan B. Harris Scholarship- $200 awarded to a junior and $200 awarded to a senior in the Communication Disorders Program. Graduate Students ONLY Franz/Myers Family Endowed Scholarship Fund- Given to a FT/PT graduate student pursuing a Master of Arts in Education with an emphasis in Library Science. Stella Thompson Lutes Memorial Endowed Scholarship Fund- Given to a KY resident with a 3.0+ GPA pursuing a Graduate degree in the College of Education. Carroll McGuffey Scholarship Endowment for the Teaching of Mathematics- Given to a FT graduate student & KY resident, preferably from Clinton, Wayne, Cumberland or Russell Counties, pursuing a master's degree in math education. Dr. Charles R. and Jamie D. Lamb Scholarship Fund- Given to a graduate student with 1-2 years teaching experience majoring in Library Science. James Madison Fellowship- Given to a graduate student who's employed as a social studies teacher. Provides money for Part-time graduate study leading to a master's degree in American history/political science. Student Loans offering Loan Forgiveness for Teachers Stafford Loan Forgiveness- Up to $5000 of student loan money can be forgiven after 5 consecutive years of full-time teaching service in a U.S. low-income school.  Available to students borrowing a Stafford loan through FFEL or Federal Direct Loan programs after October, 1998.   BestStart/Best in Class Loans- If you become a teacher, counselor or librarian in any KY public, nonprofit school and have taken out a BestStart loan, you could be eligible for loan forgiveness (interest only) at the end of each fiscal year.  If you become a Math, Science, English as a Second Language (ESL), or Special Education teacher in any KY school, you could be eligible for additional loan forgiveness benefits (20% of original principal) at the end of each fiscal year.   EKU Scholarships
