Dear Education Student,
The Eastern Kentucky University, College of Education and many Kentucky school
districts require background checks for students enrolled in education courses
where contact with children will occur. This is to ensure a safe environment
for everyone involved.
The College of Education has worked
with Verified Credentials, Inc. to establish an acceptable screening procedure.
Your fee for this service is $40.00.
Students who are registered for
EDF 203, EDF310, EDF319 ELE 445 or EMG445 for the Fall 2008 semester need to
complete the screening request during the first two weeks of class. Students
who fail to submit a background check by the deadline will not be allowed to
complete their current education course. Your instructor will provide a specific
deadline for your course. Background check information submitted after the deadline
will not be accepted for the current semester but can be used for the following
semester.
Please follow the directions
below for submitting your application to Verified Credentials:
- Go to http://www.myvci.com/ekucoe
- Select your program from the
drop down menu.
- Complete and sign disclosure.
- Complete information page.
- Step 3 allows payment by credit
card (prepaid Credit Cards cannot be used), bank transfer or Money Order.
If utilizing Money Order your order will not be placed until your payment
has been received. Make selection and place order.
Note: To pay by credit or debit
card, the name entered on Step 2 must match exactly what appears on the credit
or debit card, otherwise payment will not be processed. If payment is made with
someone else’s card, DO NOT fill out step 3. Please call 888-671-1238
for processing payment over the phone.
Upon completion the results of the
background screening will be sent to you via email and be made available to
EKU’s office of Teacher Education Services. If any information is found
that would negatively affect your eligibility for the College of Education courses,
you will be given an opportunity to challenge the information through the Adverse
Action process associated with Verified Credentials. If you have any questions
please contact Client Services at 800.938.6090.
If you have previously taken a
Child and Family Studies course that required this background check please contact
Teacher Education Services in Combs 423 or teacher.admissions@eku.edu. Do not
complete the check at this time.
