ADMISSIONS POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

Admissions to the MA in Ed School Counseling and MA in Mental Health Counseling:

All graduate school admissions requirements must be met which includes a minimum grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale and completion of the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) or the Miller Analogies Test (MAT). The applicant must also submit documentation as described in the admissions packet: Admissions Packet MS WORD, Admissions Packet PDF

Additionally, the applicant must meet one of the following requirements for admission to the programs:

  • an undergraduate overall grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale or
  • an undergraduate grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale on the last 60 hours or
  • a minimum of 400 on the verbal section of the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) or
  • a minimum of 400 on the performance section on the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) or
  • a total raw score of 30 on the Miller Analogy Test (MAT) or an adjusted score of 375 on the new MAT.
  • School Counseling Students Only

    Successful passing (as defined by your teaching certification) of the PLT portion of the PRAXIS exam has officially been approved and now  will be considered as a substitute for the GRE or MAT.  The PLT portion is the ONLY part of the exam that we will consider and this will ONLY apply to the students entering into the School Counseling Program. 

    Admission to the Master of Arts in Human Services:

    All graduate school admissions requirements must be met which includes a minimum grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale and completion of the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) or the Miller Analogies Test (MAT). The applicant must also submit documentation as described in the admissions packet: Admissions Packet MS WORD, Admissions Packet PDF

    Additionally, the applicant must meet one of the following requirements for admission to the program:

  • a minimum of 300 on the verbal section of the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) or
  • a minimum of 300 on the performance section on the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) or
  • a total raw score of at least 30 on the Miller Analogy Test (MAT) and adjusted score of 365 on the new MAT.
  • If the student meets the above criteria, they must then complete the departmental application process which requires:

    1. Biographical/Philosophical Statement

    2. 3 Structured References

    3. Responses to 3 Visualizations

    4. Structured Vita

    5. Completion of Effective Counselor Characteristics Review

    6. Agreement Contract (located at end of the Student Handbook)
