The Rank I is earned with 60 graduate audit hours in education.
If you come into the Masters in School Counseling program with previous graduate
coursework relevant to education (course hours 10 years or less old) you can
combine these on a planned program generated with your adviser to earn the
Rank I with the completion of 6 graduate hours.
The Standard Certification in School Counseling is earned with
60 graduate hours in planned program in School Counseling. If a candidate for
this certification has taken all their graduate courses from this planned
program they will earn the Standard Certificate in School Counseling and the
Rank I at the same time.

This 60 hour program is designed to meet the curriculum requirements of the Kentucky Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor law as well as CACREP standards. The program has 51 hours of required courses and 9 hours of electives which must be approved by the advisor and are within the curriculum guidelines of the Council for the Accreditation of Counseling and Related Education Programs (CACREP) and the Kentucky Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor law.

The nine hours of electives on the Mental Health Counseling Program may be used toward the following additional credentials:
Electives may be taken in a specialty area which may lead to certification in the area. EKU has course work available to meet the curriculum requirements for certification in specialty areas by the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC)
for certification as a Master Addictions Counselor. Information about this certification can be found on the
NBCC website.
Credential in Marriage and Family Therapy:
Cooperative Agreement with Western Kentucky University or Lindsay Wilson College for taking 9 hours of electives leading toward Kentucky License in Marriage and Family Therapy. Please check with the various colleges and universities for specific coursework.

For those individuals who earned the Masters of Arts in Community Counseling (33 hours) at EKU and who wish to pursue the Kentucky LPCC Certification the following coursework is recommended.
