 Middle Grades M.A.T. Courses

 

Application deadline:

November 15, 2007 for admission in Spring 2008 (January)
April 15, 2008 for admission in Summer 2008 (May)

1. Complete all the requirements outlined by the Graduate School.

2. Complete and submit the following to the GRADUATE SCHOOL in order to be considered for admission to the M.A.T. program.

  • Graduate School Application and application fee.

  • Transcripts indicating a bachelor's degree and any additional course 
    work from an accredited institution with a overall GPA of 3.00 
    OR
    a GPA of 3.00 in the last 60 hours of coursework 
    OR
    A Master's Degree


  • Transcripts will be reviewed by content area certification specialists. Middle grades certification requires a minimum of 24 hours in two content areas (social studies, math, English, or science) that represents a broad multidisciplinary knowledge.


  • GRE scores of 350 verbal and 350 quantitative
    OR
    a score of 388 on the Miller Analogies Test 

    NOTE -Applicants who took the GRE before October 1, 2002 should discuss GRE requirements with Kim Alexander- (859) 622-8326

3. Submit the following, in one packet, to Kim Alexander (address below)

  • Passing scores on the PRAXIS II exam in ONE of the TWO content
    areas you wish to teach (mathematics, science, social studies
    or language arts)
    • NOTE: After admission to the program, but prior to graduation, candidates will also be required to pass the second content exam AND the "Principles of Learning and Teaching" exam of PRAXIS II

      PRAXIS registration codes and passing scores


  • A professional resume


  • A professional autobiography (2-4 pages)


  • Three letters of reference documenting relevant life/work/educational experience


  • Two "Dispositions" written assignments
    Assignment #1;

    Assignment #2


  • An interview with the M.A.T. committee (after all of the materials listed above have been submitted) NOTE: After admission to the program, but prior to graduation, candidates will be required to pass the PRAXIS II "Principles of  Learning and Teaching" exam AND content area(s) exam(s) in which you are to be certified.
