GRADUATE PROGRAMS
DEPARTMENT OF
CURRICULUM AND INSTRUCTION
Graduate programs offered through the
Department of Curriculum and Instruction include the Master of Arts in
Education Degree with options in Elementary Education, Library Science,
Middle Grade Education, Secondary Education, Gifted and Talented
Education, Reading/Writing, and the Master of Arts in Teaching with
options in Elementary Education, Middle Grade Education, and
Secondary/P-12 Education. Students admitted to these programs must
meet the general requirements of the Graduate School and specific
college and department requirements.
In addition, graduate Rank
II and Rank I non-degree programs are offered in Elementary Education,
Library Science, Middle Grade Education, and Secondary Education.
Rank II non-degree programs in these four areas may be selected for
continuation of certification. Admission to Rank I programs
requires completion of a Master's Degree or Rank II non-degree program.
Candidates in all programs set
personal/professional goals related to the Experienced Teacher
Standards, the New Teacher Standards for the M.A.T. or the AASLC
standards for Library Science programs. These goals are identified
in a Professional Improvement Plan (Master's Degree and Rank II), a
Continuing Professional Improvement Plan (Rank I), or a Professional
Development Plan (M.A.T.) Candidates develop a portfolio including
entries demonstrating their accomplishment of goals throughout their
program. This portfolio plays a significant role in a student's
exit assessment for the program.
