Mission Statement:
The mission of the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies
is to serve the rapidly changing needs of educational leaders and to provide leadership training
to wide audiences. More specifically, our mission is to identify and recruit educators with a demonstrated
knowledge of P-12 education issues and a passion for getting students to meet high achievement standards,
and to provide training and service through:
 |
graduate level education, including masters and specialist degrees
|
 |
the translation of research into practice
|
 |
the production and dissemination of professional education scholarship
|
 |
the analysis and interpretation of educational policy, and
|
 |
the provision of professional development services to school-related personnel. |
Faculty members provide instruction, consultation,
and scholarship that focus on defining and resolving problems of professional
practice in a diverse and pluralistic society. The faculty: promote ethical
decision making, are student-and client-centered, incorporate emerging
technologies and alternative delivery mechanisms, engage authentic assessment,
and emphasize the educational value of clinical experiences.
Moreover, our programs are consciously and deliberately
aligned with EKU’s commitment to regional stewardship and its record of service to Appalachian Kentucky.
We recognize that rural schools and communities—the schools and communities in which many of our graduates
will likely serve—face unique challenges and possess unique strengths with which to face those challenges,
and we believe that sustaining and improving rural schools requires unique knowledge bases and specific
technical and practitioner skills.
